When I was younger, my Mum and I'd spend our Sundays in the Summer watching Somerset play cricket at Taunton, Bath and Weston. We were there during the glorious days of Botham, Richards & Garner right though to Steve Waugh. We'd sit up in the "the cinema", as we called it; a stand high up and end on to the wicket, which was filled with old cinema seats. Nice and comfy and pretty well protected from the elements.
We'd eat our picnic food, chat about the play, fill in our scorecards, laugh with the other spectators, relax and gossip. It was a truly magical time that we shared.
My friend Roz sent me this video link about how cricket looks to people who don't understand the rules and the more I see it, the funnier it gets. It makes me chuckle every time I even think about it.
And it reminds me of my Mum; sat there in the cinema, cup of tea and cigarette in hand; wrapped up warm against the south-westerly wind with a cheeky glint in her eye and a scathing word to say about the fielding. We had some great laughs there and she would have laughed until she cried watching this.
Love you Mum. Miss you. x
