![]() We often think of losing weight as a new year resolution. But there's another way........ If we just focus on getting fit, the fatness will look after itself. This article shows that if we're slim but unfit, we're twice as likely to die than someone who's overweight, but fit. That's amazing isn't it? I knew it was critical our health that our waist measures less than half our height, BUT I'd assumed that as long as I was slim, then I'd be pretty much OK health-wise. So our obsession with diets can stop us getting fitter and healthier. And our minds can suffer too from the stress of it all. I once went on a food-combining diet and lost loads of weight. But my carbohydrate meal would often be a large pack of crisps and a bag of sweets! And I wonder how much muscle and even bone density I lost, as well as fat, during that diet... I'm now better informed about eating real food and my diet is a good one (still bordering on the obsessive!). And I'm naturally slim, because I now ensure I keep moving to keep my mind and body healthy. My resolution for 2013 is to do more yoga and maybe start interval training - just 4 minutes of high intensity workout, 2 to 3 times a week. There's no benefit to overdoing it. And I have no excuse why I couldn't find that small amount of time. I want to live a long, active life, both mentally and physically, so it's worth the effort. I start doing more tomorrow. Happy New Year everyone!
